Usually the impacted teeth are the third molars, the so called wisdom teeth. They cut the last, somewhere between 17 and 25 years of age, but usually due to lack of space in the jaw or their improper positioning, the cutting is hindered. Thus as a result of their cutting, usually the following occurs:
- Pain due to pressure-they put pressure on the neighbouring tooth and cause discomfort and pain.
- Gingiva infection-the bacteria trapped between the tooth and the gum cause an infection which results in pain and increased salivation as well as gum stiffness.
- Caries-the position of the wisdom teeth in the jaw hinders the teeth brushing, thus food and bacteria deposit which can not be removed, so they usually have caries even before they cut.
- Cyst-the most severe complication which actually represents a bag filled with liquid that forms around the gingiva of the impacted tooth and can lead to fracture of the jaw bone.
